Wall Panels
Q. What level of protection will an Acrovyn panel provide?
A. The fire rated particle core provides five times the impact resistance of common 1/2" (12.7mm) gypsum board.
Q. Are Acrovyn panels fire rated?
A. Yes. Acrovyn panels are UL Class 1 Classified and Labeled composite panels (as opposed to other systems that have tested one or more components).
Q. Is wall panel installation complicated?
A. No. Acrovyn panels are easy to install using regular construction adhesive. There is virtually no substrate preparation when installing the panel, which translates into major savings for both installation cost and time.
Q. Where can Acrovyn panels be used?
A. Acrovyn panels can be installed over any flat surface such as ceramic tile, block, painted or vinyl clad drywall. The use of optional, mounting systems allows panels to be easily removed for maintenance/access.
Q. What design flexibility do I have in using Acrovyn panels?
A. Acrovyn offer almost limitless flexibility by using custom sizes, edge treatments, mounting options and textures.
Q. What sizes are available?
A. Pebblette, Suede and Matte textures are available in 46" x 94" or 118" (1.17m x2.39m or 3.0m) square edge wall panels. Sandstone, Stipple, Mesa, Stone Chips, Moonscape, Leather, Pindot, Pinstripe and Dado textures are available in 43" x 90" or 114" (1.17m x 2.29m or 2.90m) square edge panels and beveled edge panels. Single Tread and Triple Tread textures are available in 42" x 88" or 112" (1.1m x 2.2m or 2.8m) square edge panels and beveled edge panels. Panels can be field cut using a saber saw. (Edge moldings should be used to protect cut edges.) Also, panel sizes are not restricted to standard sizes; call for details
Q. What panel thicknesses are available?
A. Standard 3/8" (9.53mm) thickness allows panels to interface properly to existing door and frame conditions. Optional 5/8" (15.88mm) panels are also available.
Q. Are Acrovyn panels moisture balanced?
A. Yes. The moisture resistant vapor barrier on the backside of the panel prevents panels from curling.

Rigid Wall Covering
Q. Is it easy to install?
A. Generally, yes. To avoid problem installations, an experienced installer of rigid sheet is recommended. Installing rigid Acrovyn requires different installation skills than installing flexible wall covering. The rigid nature of the material means that cutting with a knife is not practical; therefore, an electric saw must be used. Also, overlapping and double cutting is not possible, so a variety of joint treatments are available to achieve an acceptable installation.
Q. Can I use other adhesives for applying Acrovyn?
A. No. The appropriate adhesive for applying Acrovyn wall covering is Acrovyn Interior Heavy Duty Water-Based Mastic. (C/S will not ship without it!) Use of other adhesives will void fire rating and product warranty.
Q. Is it possible to seal the joints?
A. Yes. Color matched caulking is available.
Q. Can I use rigid Acrovyn on radius conditions?
A. Yes. .040" Thick Wall Covering - Radii up to 23" must be pre-formed prior to shipping product. Radii 24" and greater may be shipped in flat sheet form without preforming. Acrovyn .060" Thick Wall Covering - Radii up to 35" must be pre-formed prior to shipping product. Radii 36" and greater will be shipped in flat sheet form without preforming.
Q. Can .040" or .060" Acrovyn sheet be used smooth side out?
A. No. Only textured side has a consistent color. Instead, we offer a smooth textured sheet (Suede), especially for use in clean areas.
Q. Are there areas where I shouldn't use Acrovyn sheeting?
A. Avoid using rigid Acrovyn sheet directly inside glazed areas where excessive heat gain from sunlight can cause blistering of sheet due to rapid expansion.
Q. Can I use rigid Acrovyn to protect my doors and door frames?
A. Yes. We offer a complete range of door and frame cladding to suit every design concept and budget from kick plates to full cladding. Chameleon sheet allows the use of highly resilient simulated wood finish door sets.

Handrails
Q. What lengths are available?
A. Acrovyn rails are supplied in 20' (6.1m) lengths or cut to size as required. Renaissance rails will be shipped in random lengths from 7-12 feet (2.1m-3.7m) unless ordered cut to size [special orders can be supplied up to 16' (4.9m) long].
Q. Can Acrovyn and Renaissance rails span further to accommodate glazing mullions?
A. Yes. With additional reinforcements in some cases, most Acrovyn and Renaissance handrails will span across full height glazing where mullions are at conventional spacing.
Q. If I want cut-to-size material what measurements must I provide?
A. Measure door jamb to door jamb; the factory will make the appropriate deductions.
Q. How critical is correct measurement and cutting?
A. Measuring and cutting are very critical, although Acrovyn rails are designed to allow for some adjustment of end caps after installation for best possible fit and finish. Renaissance rails allow for no adjustment.
Q. Are outside corners available for all products?
A. No. Refer to the selection chart, as some rails do not have certain corner accessories.
Q. How do I deal with odd angle corners?
A. Most rails are available with factory fabricated corners for odd angles.
Q. Can some radiuses be performed in the field?
A. Acrovyn, yes. Renaissance, no.
Q. Can I use Acrovyn or Renaissance handrails on staircases?
A. The majority of handrails are not recommended. Acrovyn HR-6C and Renaissance HRW-6C are not recommended for stair towers, but can be used for straight staircases. Renaissance HRWS-6C can be used for both conditions.
Q. Are special fasteners required for different wall construction types?
A. All interior wall protection products, including handrails, come with appropriate fasteners for installation.
Q. Are face rail bumpers and inserts standard on wood rails?
A. No. You have to specify exactly which you want or the rails will be supplied with no inserts or surface treatment.
Q. Are the wood rails always pre-finished?
A. Renaissance handrails will be shipped finished unless otherwise specified. Custom finishes are also available.
Q. Are Renaissance wood rails easier to maintain than conventional wood rails?
A. Renaissance profiles using aluminum retainers incorporate a patented design which allows the wood components to be removed for repair/refinishing without having to remove the entire handrail from the wall.
Q. Is a touch-up kit available for wood products?
A. Yes, for standard finishes only.
Q. What can I do to help prevent high risk patients from harming themselves?
A. C/S offers two leaning rail profiles which are completely enclosed between the rail and the wall. We also can provide a handrail bracket enclosure for most of our other handrail profiles. This encloser completely seals off the back of the back of the handrail so there is no gap between the wall and the handrail.

Corner Guards
Q. Why should "regrind" (recycled Acrovyn) retainers be selected rather than aluminum retainers?
A. Test results show regrind retainers resist more impact energy than aluminum retainers do. (Refer to section "Technical Support Data" for test results.)
Q. What heights are available?
A. 4', 8' and 10' (1.2m, 2.4m and 3.0m) are standard heights for most Acrovyn models, with any size up to 20' (6.1m) being available. Renaissance corner guards are supplied cut to size only with a standard maximum height of 10' (3.1m); consult factory regarding longer length requirements. Be sure to reference the available heights for specific model(s) of interest.
Q. Are special angles available?
A. Acrovyn corner guards are available in most degrees for both surface mounted and flush mounted models. Consult factory with specific requirements.
Q. Why should I use an end cap at the bottom of surface mounted units?
A. The bottom cap prevents the cover from slipping down.
Q. How far above the finished floor should a corner guard start?
A. It's recommended that all guards start at the top of the cove base height to facilitate floor cleaning.
Q. Are corner guards for end wall applications all one size?
A. No. End wall guards are fabricated to suit the wall thickness specified.
Q. How do you attach clear polycarbonate corner guards?
A. Applying clear corner guards must be done with screws because adhesive will show through the unit.
Q. Must flush corner guards be floor to ceiling?
A. No. Flush guards are available in partial heights utilizing special closure caps.
Q. How do I handle flush retainer when cove base is required?
A. Our flush retainer has a standard base unit for cove base to go over. Specify 4" (101.6mm) or 6" (152.4mm) as required (custom available).
Q. Does C/S have fire rated corner guards for penetrating a fire rated wall?
A. Yes. (Refer to the selection guide for several options of fire rated flush mounted corner guards.)

Technical Support Data
Q. Is Acrovyn fire rated?
A. Yes. Acrovyn is UL Classified and Labeled Class 1. The following lists the six distinctly different applications for Acrovyn. (Refer to actual test results found in this section.)
- Acrovyn Profiles (handrails, leaning rails, crash rails, bumper guards, accent rails and corner guards)
- Acrovyn Wall Covering
- Acrovyn Wall Panels
- Acrovyn Fire Rated, Flush Mounted, Corner Guards are UL Labeled with 1-hour and 2-hour ratings (acts as a fire barrier when used with fire rated walls)
- Acrovyn Door Protection is UL Labeled with a 3-hour rating when applied to steel doors, and 1-1/2-hour rating when applied to wood doors
- Acrovyn Door Frame Protection is UL Labeled with a 3-hour rating when applied to steel frames
Q. What is the difference between Class 1 and Time-hour rated?
A. Class 1 designates the material's surface burning characteristics when tested in accordance with UL723, ASTM-E84-01 and CAN/ULCS102.2. The governing building codes such as NFPA, UBC, BOCA and SBCCI mandate that all building materials, even trims, carry a minimum of a Class III rating. Acrovyn is Class 1, signifying a much lower flame spread rating than required by Code.
Time rating is the appropriate designation for those products applied
onto or into equally rated doors and walls. Applying a material that is
not time-rated to a rated wall, door and/or door frame will negate the
rating of assembly.
Q. What is the value of the UL Label?
A. Underwriters Laboratories certifies, via their Label, that each piece of Acrovyn constantly meets or exceeds the requirements of the specified test procedure and outcome. C/S is part of the UL Follow-Up Program, which ensures we continue to use classified materials and components.
Q. How are the UL Labeled products identified?
A. Furnishing a test report is insufficient; therefore, the products must be labeled with a UL approved vandal-proof label. Acrovyn products are labeled on the inside of the profile or heat stamped with the UL label.
Q. Why must Acrovyn products be acclimated in an environment 65-75ºF (18-24ºC) for at least 24 hours prior to installation?
A. Product acclimation prior to installation helps prevent unnecessary shrinkage or expansion problems after installation is complete.
Q. What warranties are available for Acrovyn products?
A. Click on the link to view the Acrovyn five(5) year limited warranty.
